Michael Burkhead, a native of Louisville, KY, is a graduate of the University of Louisville, holding a Bachelor’s in Music Education and a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance. He is currently enrolled at the University of Kentucky pursuing a DMA in Clarinet Performance, studying under Dr. Scott Wright.

 

Michael serves as the Director of Bands at Fairdale High School and as the Music Director at Okolona Presbyterian Church. Michael’s principal teachers include some well-known names in the clarinet world, including Dallas Tidwell, Marilyn Nije, and Tim Zavadil.

Michael performs regularly in the Louisville area with many great past and present musicians and organizations, including; The Louisville Philharmonia, The Louisville Civic Orchestra, The Thompson Street Opera Company, Centerstage, Pandora Productions, and ACC (Acting Against Cancer), as well with other regional organizations such as Woodford Theater and the Providence Players of Providence High School. He also serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Indiana University Southeast as a part of the Music Department.

Michael is a Clarinets by Copland Performing artist. He  plays on a Copeland set of Bb and A Willow clarinets.

Michael lives in Louisville, Ky with his wife Brittany, their daughter Hillary, son Michael, and their two dogs Elphaba and Thorin.
